SeaWorld's Antarctica: Empire of the Pengun Opens

Just as it did with Turtle Trek, SeaWorld Orlando is again educating and entertaining its visitors about a particular species by telling a story through the point of view of one animal. This time, though, the experience is more immersive, including a restaurant and other themed areas.

The new Antarctica section of the park opens today (May 24) and its centerpiece ride, Empire of the Penguin, takes visitors on a journey with Puck, a baby penguin. Much like last summer's new TurtleTrek, Empire of the Penguin appeals to its audience by showcasing one animal's battle against nature and then allowing guests to observe the animals in their habitat.

SeaWorld Announces Lauren Alaina to Promote Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins

SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment has partnered with award-winning country artist Lauren Alaina to perform the official theme song for the new attraction at SeaWorld Orlando, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, opening May 24, 2013.

Alaina recorded two songs for SeaWorld, including the theme song for the ride in Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, and a remix version called "Antarctica: One World, One Family." Alaina also will be performing the song live at SeaWorld Orlando for the attraction grand opening the week of May 24.

Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin born at SeaWorld

A male dolphin calf was born at Discovery Cove in Orlando Monday, February 25, at 10:05 pm. The calf now weighs approximately 44 pounds and is 44 inches long. He is nursing and bonding with his mom, Kendall, both a good indication that the calf is doing well. This is Kendall's fourth birth and the 26th dolphin born at Discovery Cove since the park opened in 2000.

SeaWorld's Bands, Brew & BBQ Festival Report

SeaWorld partners with local restaurants for great BBQ, an array of beers and tops it off with a classic rock and country music concert. Check out Deb's report with photos and video. This year's event is held Saturdays and Sundays now through March 17th, 2013. The event area opens at 11:30am and closes at 7pm. Concerts begin at 4:00pm. Bands, Brew & BBQ is included with your park admission.

BOTTOM LINE: I had a great time and hope to get back to see another concert and chow down on more BBQ before the festival ends!

Santa's Fireside Feast at SeaWorld

My 10-year-old son and I attended the first night of the event this season, which was a new experience for us, with some friends. Typically, the price of the dinner show -- $29.99 for adults and $19.99 for children ages 2 to 9 -- includes reserved seating for A Sesame Street Christmas afterward. Guests are advised to pick up their seating passes at the Information and Reservations Counter at least 90 minutes before their meals.

Then, guests can gather outside Seafire Inn Restaurant. To the left of the main doors is a pathway along the waterfront that leads to the check-in podium and a backdrop for a complimentary family photo. Silly or serious smiles welcome!
