Indiana-Jones Themed Lounge Coming to Downtown DisneyIndiana-Jones Themed Lounge Coming to Downtown Disney
May 21, 2015
A new Disney-owned and operated lounge with an aviation theme is being constructed at Downtown Disney between Paradiso 37 and the recently opened BOATHOUSE restaurant. The 150-seat Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar will feature unique cocktails and small plates, such as "Rolling Boulder Meatballs" and "Air Pirates Everything Pretzels". The venue's decor, with its propeller-based ceiling fans and diving bell "booth," carries out its storyline as the hangout of Indiana Jones's frequent pilot, Jock Lindsey, who also happened to have a pet snake named Reggie. The main room will house an expansive bar, with vintage travel posters covering the walls and correspondence between Jock, Indy and their fellow adventurers on display. Outside seating will be available on Jock's old steamboat named "Reggie" and in nearby seating on the adjacent deck. Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is set to open this fall at Downtown Disney.

Should Walt Disney World Bars/Lounges Serve Only Adults?Should Walt Disney World Bars/Lounges Serve Only Adults?
April 04, 2015
Recently, we have observed families with young children eating at the bars in restaurants such as the California Grill at the Contemporary hotel or lounges such as Tune-In adjacent to the 50s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios. Bar seating doesn't, of course, require a reservation, and may be the only way to gain entrance to a particular eatery that is booked solid six months in advance. Our family has never tried this, but I'm curious how other adults feel about sitting at a bar next to unrelated children. Do you feel like that area should be restricted to adults of legal drinking age or is first-come, first-served the best way to handle the open seating?

Disney Springs Update: Planet Hollywood and Paradiso 37 to ExpandDisney Springs Update: Planet Hollywood and Paradiso 37 to Expand
March 16, 2015
Two Downtown Disney restaurants are expanding, concurrent with the area's transformation into Disney Springs. Paradiso 37 will nearly double its seating and add more terrace dining and a new outdoor performance stage. The menu will continue to offer a culinary tour of North, Central and South America. Paradiso 37 will remain open while undergoing renovations, which are expected to be finished by this summer.

Planet Hollywood will be transformed into a four-story stargazing observatory to "match the design aesthetic of Disney Springs." The interior will feature spherical, planet-shaped lighting fixtures and will create a welcoming atmosphere for fans to celebrate a new generation of superstar entertainers, while retaining the old movie memorabilia. There will be a new outdoor terrace and an outdoor bar space called Stargazers that will feature live entertainment. The main dining room will include a DJ. Planet Hollywood's renovations will be completed in 2016.

Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace Swap LocationsAloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace Swap Locations

Aloha Isle, famous for its pineapple treats (including the fan-favorite Dole Whip and fresh pineapple spears) will move behind the Tiki Room and Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Sunshine Tree Terrace, home of the Citrus Swirl and the iconic Orange Bird, will relocate across from the Swiss Family Treehouse. Menus for both locations will remain intact and transfer to the new homes as well.

Side note for fans of the Turkey Leg: the hearty snack will no longer be found in Frontierland and Liberty Square. Instead, as of March 25, they'll be sold in Tomorrowland at the Cool Ship.

Planning a Trip with Older TeensPlanning a Trip with Older Teens
March 11, 2015
Our trips have changed immensely since our first trip to the World, years ago when the girls were toddlers. Daughter #1 has just turned 20 (!) and at 17, Daughter #2 only has a few more months of being the "Child" on our Disney reservations. One of the things that I have realized is that it was during our trips in the tween and teen years when the girls really cemented their love of Disney. If you reach that point and your kids are still willing to drag themselves out of bed for park openings, you have done your job correctly. If not, no worries, a few adjustments, and you can maintain family harmony during your Disney vacations. Here are a few observations and tips, which might be helpful as you plan a trip with your not-so-little ones:
