NEWS: Budget Airline Adds NEW (and Cheap) Route to Disney World

We’ve been singing the praises of the Brightline Train service at the Orlando International Airport since it began there and after we took the train and saw how convenient and inexpensive it is.

But, now, a NEW option for traveling between the two cities could be on the way, and get this — it could be even cheaper — and faster — than the train.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, Avelo Airlines is planning on testing a route for “seasonal” travel on Fridays and Sundays between June 7th and August 18th between Orlando and Miami with one-way fares running at just $46 for a flight that only lasts a little over an hour. Meanwhile, Brightline SMART fares run from $39 to $89 for a three-and-a-half-hour travel time.

This new route is a test to see if there’s demand for quick trips between Miami and Orlando. Also, note that only about 20% of each flight’s seats will be at the $46 price point. There’s also the time factor you have to consider.  It could take the Avelo flight as long as the Brightline train because you have to factor time to get through the airport and security plus about the 30 minutes it will take to get off the plane and exit the airport when you land.

Brightline Station

On the other hand, with Brightline, you can arrive at the station only 20 minutes before the train, walk through security in under a minute, and board and exit the train in about 5 minutes. So overall, a flight would probably still take the same amount of time you’d spend on a train (which we found to be way more comfortable than a plane).

So, overall, it really depends on your preference, all things considered. But it will be interesting to see how Avelo’s test of the new route works out.
