These Orlando Airport Changes Could Impact Your Next Disney World Trip

If you’re going to be flying into or out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) in the coming months, you’ll probably want to take notice of what we have to say next.

Orlando International Airport

We’ve seen several changes to airlines and security around Orlando International Airport recently, but it doesn’t seem like the changes will stop there! Several new projects are on the horizon for the popular airport, and we’re taking a closer look at a few that could affect your travels on your next Disney World vacation or if you’re flying out of MCO.

We get it — flying into MCO for your next Disney vacation may be a massive undertaking that you’re already considering. The same could be said for leaving on vacation from the busy airport. However, if you’ve ever fancied yourself a planner (and want to make sure you’ve got plenty of time to make that first dining reservation) you’ll need to know about several projects getting ready to start at the airport.

Orlando Airport

We’re talking about everything from popular closures to massive multi-million dollar expansion projects that could affect your arrivals and departures! Let’s take a look!

Lost Parking Spaces

Recently, the popular Park, Bark, and Fly parking lot closed its service provided to airport travelers. This change went into effect as of February 4th, 2024, and was a big sting to the traveling community.

This spot was made popular due to its cheaper costs, availability on holidays, round-the-clock access, and the flexibility to use it for short or long-term parking for RV and boat storage.

Parking is changing at MCO

While this certainly isn’t the only alternative parking lot available near MCO, it certainly saw plenty of business and now travelers will need to find alternate parking offsite or opt to use on-site parking spaces with Orlando International Airport

Reserved Parking

A recent tease from MCO on their social media left us all in a tizzy!

The short clip showed a car pulling into the parking garage and ultimately a parking spot with minimal wait (and not having to compete for the open spot). The teaser then talked about “an upgraded parking experience” with reserved parking at MCO coming soon. We’re still waiting on details to be released about this service, when it could take effect, and costs for various parking locations so you’ll want to make sure this is an option that could pop up on the scene sooner rather than later.

A $10 Million Parking Guidance System Is Coming

Speaking of parking at MCO, reserved parking changes will be coming soon! Orlando International Airport is reportedly looking to spend $10 million on parking changes that make parking on-site easier for you!

Parking

A Parking Guidance System is set to be installed at the airport (similar to what’s used at Disney Springs) that will come with big, digital screens telling travelers the number of parking spots available in the rows or floors. This system will also utilize the help of lights to determine which sports are already occupied or not.

While we don’t have an official timeline yet of when this system is expected to be completed, the airport expects to firm up contracts for the project in June 2024.

Terminal C Expansion

Recently, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority approved a contract that would lead to expansive growth for the relatively new, Terminal C.

This ambitious project along with a $1.09 million contract was awarded to an aviation consulting firm that will be in charge of deciding the future that awaits Terminal C’s expansion. The proposed project looks to add 16 to 24 aircraft gates and several more new amenities. Again, we have no real timeline to follow just yet on when this project is estimated to be completed but it appears based on MCO’s recent surge in travelers it could be a very welcomed change to alleviate congested traffic.

  1. You should mention that recent wait times at the TSA checkpoint has been up to 1 hour, averaging about 45 minutes. Many people are missing flights

  2. I never fly in to Orlando. Would rather go to Tampa as it’s not a much longer drive. About time someone starts serving Lakeland. FLY NAVY!!!
