First-Hand Report At the Contemporary dock area there's a little hut where you sign up for all of the water sports. It's run by "Sammy Duvall's" and this company leases the space from Disney. For two people, tandem parasailing, the cost was $120. It's $80 for one person. It's not necessary to wear a bathing suit (though I'm glad we had them on - more on that later). I was very surprised to learn that there's no minimum age for this -- the gal on the boat said they've had kids as young as 2 do it with a parent! We headed out onto Bay Lake in the boat. I was nervous at first! We were going tandem. You have a seat very similar to that of a swing set -- the strap going under the tops of your thighs and between your legs. Melissa is taller than me, so she got her gear on (life jacket, too, of course) and we climbed to the back of the boat, onto a "deck," and she rode in front of me. There are straps that you can hold onto (and I did!) ...then the driver starts going gradually faster, then you're released from the "hold" and up you go! It's VERY gradual and VERY, VERY smooth! I can honestly say there wasn't a moment of nervousness once we were doing this! The view is amazing and just that feeling of floating around up there is incredible! You go up approximately 800-900 feet. Even looking straight down, there still wasn't any fear factor. You're up in the air for 10-12 minutes. They'll gradually start to wheel your line in and you come down, landing ultimately on the deck where you started... or that's what you're supposed to do! They dunked us! I found out later my husband had TOLD them to! No big deal really -- the water is VERY warm -- I just didn't like the seaweed! This really is an exhilarating experience, so if you have ever even thought about doing it, go for it! (IMBE, 8/99) |
