If you’re planning a trip to Universal Orlando, you might consider staying at one of their on-site hotels!
Universal’s hotels come with special benefits, like Early Park Admission, free transportation to the parks, and in some cases, Express Pass! For that last benefit, you’ll need to stay at one of the Premier resorts, but right now, there’s one Premier resort people are MAD about.
Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is one of Universal Orlando’s Premier resorts, but it’s having a ROUGH time right now. What’s going on? Well, the entire resort is under construction.
Currently, many of the buildings are covered in scaffolding and there are construction walls and tarps up EVERYWHERE. This makeover started back in June 2023 to update the exterior facade and “maintain the immersive experience of [our] Italian village.” Unfortunately, it is expected to last through June 2025.
Repairs happen during the day between the hours of 9AM-6PM. Many recent guests of the hotel have left upset reviews online due to the state of things, with most of the complaints related to the look of the resort and the difficulty of getting around.
Some people even noted problems with their rooms during the refurbishment, saying that they were sent to hotel rooms that weren’t cleaned properly ahead of time. Despite these complaints, other guests have still noted that the service from hotel staff seems to be great and very friendly.
Ultimately, if the construction and look of the hotel bothers you, it might be a good idea to stay elsewhere until the refurbishment is complete. Loews Royal Pacific Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel are also Premier resorts and offer the same benefits that Portofino Bay does.

Just spent 4 days there. The price for a room is better because of the construction that is noted when booking room. Anyone complaining should shut up and look in the mirror. You made reservations knowing about it but chose it anyway. I enjoyed it, and appreciate them keeping the place looking good and immersive.we have reservations for September also so that says it all.
