The One Word You’ll Only Hear in Disney World and What It Means

Disney World just seems to be FILLED with hidden secrets and deeper meaning.

Cinderella Castle

This place has more Easter eggs than a Taylor Swift music video and more code language than a top-secret spy mission. Well, we’ve dedicated ourselves to figuring out these code words, and we’re here to share our findings. 🕵️‍♀️

This post is dedicated to all the words you’ll probably ONLY hear in Disney World as well as their meanings. Let’s go, super sleuths!

Utilidors

This word is one that you might hear about a lot from Magic Kingdom Cast Members. These are the utility corridors (See where the name comes from?) that run underneath Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom

They allow Cast Members to get to their locations without being seen in costume, as well as provide extra storage, break rooms, bathrooms, and even a cafeteria for Cast Members.

101

If you ever hear a Cast Member say, “We’re 101,” or, “Pirates is 101,” it means that the ride is closed or a show element is not operating at the time. A “Weather 101” means that all Cast Members must be under cover during heavy rain or when there is lightning in the area, and that a ride must close for weather purposes.

Rain!

Many Disney World visitors get upset with Cast Members for not being willing to stand in the rain or storms to assist them or to offer them their spot under shelter. Well, the reason why they don’t stand in the rain is because they literally can’t! Well, unless they want to risk a safety reprimand.

102

Similar to 101 is 102, which is pretty much the exact opposite. It means that a ride is back open for business and that everyone can carry on as usual!

Code V

If you hear Cast Members discussing a Code V, steer clear! The “V” stands for vomit, and it means someone has tossed their cookies.

Mission: Space — a common location for Code Vs

When you hear the words “Code V,” you’ll also probably soon see the custodial crew. Just find something else to do and be patient throughout cleanups! Accidents happen and are nothing to embarrass someone over.

Code H

The “H” here stands for honey. We all know who loves to eat honey! Yep, Pooh. A Code H means that someone has pooped somewhere other than the conventional location. This could be an accident on a ride, sidewalk, or even in a bathroom.

Hi Pooh!

If you hear Cast Members discuss a Code H, just steer clear and practice patience because we never know what might have caused the accident to happen. Practice kindness and go do something else!

Code A

Alright, this one is inexcusable and we’ll allow it if you’re annoyed. The “A” is for ashes. Like, human ashes. Code As happen when Disney World guests sprinkle the ashes of loved ones throughout Disney World lands and attractions.

Please don’t try to get Grandma to haunt the Hub

This is a biohazard and results in a custodial crew having to come in and clean up the mess. Please don’t do this, y’all. Your Grandma Sue will be taken to the landfill rather than haunting the Hub.

Alpha Unit

An Alpha Unit or an “Alpha” is just an ambulance or medical crew. If you hear Cast Members tell someone to call an Alpha or that an area is blocked off for an Alpha Unit, then you know that some sort of medical emergency is happening.

Spaceship Earth

Just stay out of the way so that everyone can do their jobs efficiently and so that everyone is safe!

Backstage/Onstage

“Backstage” is what the Cast Members refer to as the areas that are only accessible to Cast Members. Whenever you’re in view of guests, you are “onstage.” This could even mean a public restroom! (Which Cast Members aren’t allowed to use, BTW.)

Anywhere that a guest is present is considered “on stage”

Everything has to do with “show” to Disney, so it’s not surprising that theatre terms are used to conduct Disney World business!

MDE/MDEx

If you ask a Cast Member for help, chances are they’ll mention MDE or MDEx. These mean the same thing — the Disney World App!

Technically, the app is called My Disney Experience, so that’s where the letters come from.
