Deb Wills' 2001 Review

Kitty Smith – March 2003

The resort was wonderful! It really is very "Disney", despite the lack of theme parks and characters. I'm sure only other Disneyholics will understand this, but it was such a treat buying my refillable mug with my very Disney room key, looking for Hidden Mickey's and other special themed surprises, and shopping for Disney pins at the gift shop. As a DVC'er, we loved the "Welcome home! We've been expecting you!" from a Cast Member when we arrived to check in. In fact, every single Cast Member we encountered, without exception, was really friendly and helpful. There isn't a whole lot to do during the off-season, but if you just want to kick back and relax at the beach, then this is just the place to do it.

One thing that came as a big surprise… the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store had an amazingly decent selection of vegetarian/vegan foods! In fact, this little place actually carried a number of items I can't even find at my local, quite large, Kroger store. Things like rice milk and soy milk, Amy's frozen entrees, Health is Wealth frozen entrees, Cliff bars and Luna bars, etc. We made good use of the little "kitchenette" in the studio.

I'm afraid the weather didn't exactly cooperate with us. We spent a couple of cloudy hours at the beach our first morning there – and I'm glad that's the first thing we did, because the rain came shortly after. It rained, and it rained, and it rained. We did some shopping, but mostly just hung out at the resort, and enjoyed the opportunity to "do nothing". 🙂

Yvonne Dickman – October 2001

Stayed at Hilton Head a few weeks ago. We were traveling through Georgia and up to Hilton Head from the UK and tried to book at Disney's Hilton Head in advance. No luck even on the Internet — they were all sold out of studios. Trying our luck we turned up mid-morning on the chance of a cancellation and managed to get one night! Excellent room with full facilities and peaceful balcony view, it was a room designed for disabled guests but that was no problem. Went to the Beach House but chose to drive there as the transport back stopped at 4 p.m. (a bit early). Also a central lounge or bar would have been good to relax in back at the lodge, the games room is very small. We did think the lack of a restaurant was strange until we saw the variety on offer just outside. Pools were excellent, grounds peaceful, staff helpful in the extreme and we just wished we could have stayed longer.
