Some of the fan favorites have been the films Disney based on current Disney attractions from the parks.  According to Space.com, it started in 1997 with Tower of Terror and has continued with the upcoming Haunted Mansion remake of the 2003 Haunted Mansion. Don’t forget about The Jungle Cruise released in 2021.

In 2020, we reported to you that a Space Mountain movie was in the works. Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster set in outer space that was unveiled at Disney World in 1975. It went on to be added to Disneyland in 1977.

The screenplay for the movie is being written by Joby Harold, and if that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because he wrote the Obi-Wan Star Wars series on Disney + that was released last year.

According to Variety, Harold is writing the script and producing with spouse Tory Tunnell under their SafeHouse Pictures banner. Also producing are the producers behind Aladdin, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich.

As we mentioned, the Jungle Cruise film was another movie made from a Disney Parks attraction. Jungle Cruise was released on July 30, 2021 — a year after its original release date. The film was moved back due to COVID-19. While there is no news on a release date for Space Mountain, delays in production from COVID-19 are likely the reason we have not heard much.

Aside from the initial release of the screenwriter and producer, no news has been released about any of the cast or directing staff. There has also not been a filming schedule released yet. This film may just be on hold while Disney focuses on more pressing projects.

Of course, it should be noted that Disney plans on cutting $5.5 Billion across the company. A large portion of this is coming in the form of cutting content. CEO, Bob Iger’s exact words were “On the content side, we expect to deliver approximately $3 billion in savings over the next few years, excluding sports.” This may have an impact on the Space Mountain film, but that is unclear.
