So what is the weird thing that you shouldn’t do in a Disney World pool? Well, it may seem strange to some, but DON’T swim with your eyes open. Trust us, we’re trying to save you some physical pain…

Fort Wilderness pool

We happened to find a post on Disney’s planning site where visitors can ask Disney questions about their upcoming trip. Recently, someone asked about what kind of chemicals are used in the resort pools and if Disney was “good about making sure the chemicals are in balance and not too strong”.

Pop Century pool

The planDisney panelist Ashley had an answer that made us want to warn you about this problem! Disney uses a combination of chlorine and chemicals to keep the pools clean and kill germs and bacteria. However, she said the chemicals may be a bit stronger at the Disney World hotels than at a private pool at home due to the amount of people who use the Disney pools.

Ashley went on to say the water is “not strong enough to aggravate my daughter’s eczema, but my sons’ eyes do become irritated if they swim too long underwater without goggles on.”

This can all be solved with a pair of goggles, which we highly recommend bringing ahead of time. If you know a pool day will be part of your Disney World trip, order a pair of swim goggles to keep everyone’s eyes protected.
