Disneyland has seen some considerable changes in recent years!

Along with the east coast counterpart, Splash Mountain closed to make way for the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride. Toontown got a facelift including an all-new attraction, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. And that’s just the surface! However, thanks to one movement in particular, many more changes are in Disneyland’s future.

DisneylandForward is a “multiyear public planning effort with the City of Anaheim to update existing development approvals that will allow Disney to meaningfully invest in Anaheim for years to come and meet the future demands in entertainment.” Essentially it’s a plan to expand Disneyland’s theme parks, parking lots, shopping, and more.

To expand, Disneyland Resort needed certain approvals to build new things within the resort — it was restricted in certain areas. For example, Disney can’t just go build a new theme park where a parking lot is currently. BUT, a vote of the Anaheim City Council just changed all that.

At a meeting on May 7th, the Anaheim City Council gave final approval to Disney’s plans.

Disneyland has committed to a $1.9 billion investment over the next decade. Plans are still in early development, however, they teased projects around Coco, Black PantherTangled, FrozenZootopiaPeter PanTron, and Toy Story. Read all about those updates here!
